HISTORY & BACKGROUND
Arabian
Tile Company Limited (ARTIC) is the largest manufacturer of
Terrazzo Tiles, Blocks, Glass Fiber Reinforced Concrete (GRC),
and Grinding Stones in Saudi Arabia.Incorporated
in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia under commercial registration
number 1010075274 dated 19/6/1410H (corresponding to 16/2/1990G).
ARTIC is owned by AICO (Aggad Investment Company).
ARTIC was originally an integral part of Arabian Technical
Contracting Company (“ARTEC”), a contracting business engaged
in the building of roads and related construction activities.
ARTEC commenced the small-scale manufacture of road paving
stones in 1976 and, having recognized the potential in this
area, created a separated division called “ARTEC Manufacturing
Division”, to specialize in the production of concrete paving
stones and tiles.
In 1982, ARTEC Manufacturing Division was awarded a large
contract by King Saud University to manufacture and supply
Terrazzo Tiles. In order to perform under the contract, ARTEC
Manufacturing Division ended into a technical assistance contract
with a U. K. public company,Quilligotti,
plc, to provide the technical know-how in the manufacturing
of Terrazzo Tiles. By the end of this contract, ARTEC Manufacturing
Division had developed sufficient expertise to design and
manufacture of Terrazzo Tiles itself.
In December 1989, ARTIC was incorporated and took over the
assets and liabilities of the ARTEC Manufacturing Division.
In January 1993 ARTIC acquired the assets, and assumed certain
loan liabilities of Saudi GRC company limited (SAUDI GRC)
from the companies liquidator and formed ARTIC GRC Division.
Saudi GRC was originally founded as a joint venture between
Tobaishi, Manufacturing, and Building Company (MABCO) and
a technical partner Pilkington plc, and was the first business
to manufacture Glass Reinforced Concrete. However, the business
experienced financial difficulties and MABCO lately acquired
Pilkingtons share in joint venture. In 1992, the liquidation
of MABCO following financial problems resulted in the liquidation
and sale of assets of Saudi GRC to ARTIC.
In April 1993, the
old plant relocated to new facility in the second industrial
city and a major capital investment was initiated. ARTIC’s
product range is always expanding, new products are developed
