Question:
What is GRC?
Answer : GRC – Glass
Reinforced Concrete – is not a single material but a
range of high strength special concretes which can be
engineered to suite particular products and
applications.
It is a composite materials consisting of
Portland Cement, fine aggregates, water, alkali
resistant fibers and additives which, when mixed in
certain proportions and manufactured under controlled
conditions with appropriate equipments, achieves
physical properties that allow it to be used for
numerous cladding applications, especially those where
weight is a significant factor in the design.

FAQS
Question:
Why you should
prefer GRC?
Answer :
Prefer
GRC due to its advantages.
1. Its relative strength to weight ratio i.e.
panel of 10mm thick with a relatively high strength
which is far greater than that of ordinary precast
concrete.
2. Weighing between 1/3 and 1/6 of typical precast
concrete, allows for larger units to be manufactured
without imposing great restrain in handling equipment.
3.
More ornate shapes, with deep reveals, returns
and setbacks provide the designer with much greater
flexibility and creativity and at the same time
maintains economic parameters.
4. GRC is made of inorganic materials and will not
burn, has negligible smoke emission and offers good
fire resistance.
5.
Thermal conductivity depends on composite
density and moisture content range 3.5 to 7
BTU/in/hr/ft²/F°. And permeability depends on the
matrix characteristics, consolidation and compaction.
Moisture absorption rate in the 8 to 16 percent by
weight.
FAQS
Question: Where to use GRC?
Answer : GRC composite
can be designed and fabricated as wall panel,
spanders, column louvers, soffits, Architectural
ornaments, such as Cornices, brackets, pilasters,
railing, column capitals, window and door surrounds,
coping and also as sun screens. Site furnishings such
as planters, bollards and fountains.
FAQS
Question:
What is GRC
Finishes?
Answer : As with
precast concrete, the most typical finishing
techniques utilized in GRC components are sand
blasting, acid etching, retarding, polishing, painted
& smooth sacking.
FAQS
Question: What are the GRC
Products?
Answer : Decorative
Products – Sphere, Pier Caps, Moulded Capital,
copings, finials, Gate piers, Ballustrading, pool
surrounds, planters, rocks (formations), Water
features, Shades; Car parks, pathways etc. Sunscreens,
trellis and many more.
Construction Products – Headers, Cills,
Window surrounds, Door surrounds, Jambs, Jamb blocks,
mullions, label mouldings, cornices, corbels, columns,
arches, wall panels, plinths, Architectural ornaments.
FAQS
Question:
What are the
problems associated with GRC and how to solve it?
Answer : Here are some
problems associated with GRC and the solution for it.
1. Due to volumetric changes within GRC product
and due to building movement, cracks in GRC joints
will appear, unless the joints are sealed with
elastomeric sealant such as silicons, urethanes or
polysulfides. Sealants must be able to withstand
anticipated joints movements.
2.
Since GRC products for outdoor use, it might
get dirty or stains and these stains can be washed out
by household cleaning products, by sandblasting or by
acid washing.
FAQS
Question:
How to fix GRC?
Answer : Fixing the GRC
to the building is basically the same as for ordinary
precast concrete, by anchoring it to the building
structure, but the anchoring system should be
considered is design to allow the volumetric change
movement of GRC and to carry the specific weights and
forces occurred due to wind or any surcharge loads.
Small ornamental units can be connected with
cast-in anchors, inserts, straps, wires or any
mechanical fastener designed to withstand anticipated
forces.
FAQS
Question:
What is the
guarantee approved by the company?
Answer : GRC shall have
a one year guarantee against proven defects in
material or workmanship, from the date of production
has been accepted.
Repairs of damaged edges or minor manufacturing
errors must be allowed, provided they do not comprise
the aesthetics of the final installation and that the
repair will last the life of the product.
FAQS
Question:
Why Alkali
Resistant Glass fiber?
Answer : Because in the
cement environment alkalinity are high. And when
alkali is present, fibers chemical and physical
properties react with the cement, hence the strength
structure is disrupts and become weak. It attacks the
E-glass fiber when tested in cement. An Alkali
resistant fiber (high in zirconia) is not affected and
do not react with alkali.
